The commentator did not mention Lanzini until the 35th minute. Neither he nor Fornals were prepared to run with the ball and take players on.

Very close game, we competed very well. Either team could have won, a draw will have to do.

Gutted we didn’t win, which I thought we should have, but I’d have taken the drawer beforehand.

Yup. Hope the Soucek deal is watertight. He looks like he's enjoying his football, too. Could be a pivotal signing as we look to reorganize midfield (Lanzini OUT, Snod and Noble bit-parts, finding Chinny's role in centre, Wilshere fuck-knows).

With Diangana back, if we stay up, wide players we should be okay for. Even without Anderson.

Still, I'm sure the DILDOS can find some way still to not pay Prague or be gazumped.

Re: ⚽ Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Can't get over what a poor player Lanzini has become since (or as a result of) his injury.

He was never the fastest, but he now lacks that initial half-yard of acceleration which took him past players and gave him a bit of an edge when he was on the ball. He seems permanently low on confidence and is always looking to give the ball away, rather than create something. He's not half the player he was before the knee knack.

The injury looks like it has affected him physically and mentally. He looks shot. Hope he comes back, but he is way short of where he was.

Otherwise, we seem to be slightly on the up (all things are relative). Two more wins should see us fall over the line. But defensively we are still poor (concedeing two goals a game) and there is still too much to fix.

Only caught the final 20 but happy with the point.

Soucek could end up HOTY if he carries on as he has been and Bowen is proving to be an excellent signing too. They've been our saviours like Hart and Kits were all those years back.

Moyes brought in both so doesn't he deserve some credit for that?

Re: ⚽ Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Understand we paid a £3.5m loan fee for Soucek and if we stay up we pay another £13.5m to make it permanent.
Seems a good deal to me.

Have conceded 2 goals in every game so need to sort that out. If we concede 2 to Burnley we will lose.
2 more wins to shut the gate ... let’s make it Burnley & Norwich and finish this dismal season and start thinking of the next

cheesebgt - on the contrary, if Lanzini hadn't rushed in, Cresswell would have had to take care of both Saint-maximin and Krafth. Lanzini clearly waved Cresswell over to get onto Krafth but he didn't go - Cresswell's fault.

Cant complain about getting a point from Newcastle away as they are playing well.
Some winnable games coming up.

Re: ⚽ Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread
As much as we would want Cresswell to prevent the cross for Newcastle’s first surely at least one of our defensive midfielders should have covered Almiron’s run into the box to score?

Hope they've fixed a price for Soucek as he's improving and scoring regularly...
Great asset ...

Re: ⚽ Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Bowen really does take a good set piece, thought we'd be struggling in that area without snodgrass but we seem more dangerous than ever frim corners esoecially with the czech fellaini in the box.

(May be harsh comparing souchek to fellaini as i think he has more to his game than we've perhaps seen yet)

Re: ⚽ Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread
I'd have taken a point before the game started, but feel gutted that we didn't take all three in the end.

Lanzini rushing in to try and tackle the man on the ball, left Cresswell two players to mark for their first goal. So I won't blame Cresswell solely for that goal, we need a left side midfielder who's willing and able to help out in defending.

The second was all Fornal's fault. The defence were moving out in a line and Fornal's decides to hang behind them (by yards) playing Newcastle onside.

I'll finish on a positive, I was happy to see us with a goal threat yet again.

Noble knows the score.
Be under any illusion his career is coming to it's end.
He will be the first to say don't pick me I'm struggling.
Had a great career not fair to him to expect him to change a game.
Doubt if he'll be the club captain next season.

Re: ⚽ Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Noble brought absolutely nothing to the table today.

I’d drop Lanzini now, enough is enough.

Next game try Bowen and Yarmolenko on the flanks with Fornals in behind. I’m torn on Fornals. He looks shit one minute then threads a ball through like the one for our first goal.

He’s by no means a game controlling player like the best creative midfielders, but he’s better than Lanzini at the moment and has the highest number of assists this season.

Can’t be any worse than Lanzini in there.

Vexed 6:59 Sun Jul 5
Re: ⚽ Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Lanzini looks a poor player now, absolutely nothing to his game except dithering on the ball and sideways passes. Not helped by the lack of movement really. Formals is frustrating, looks like there's a player in there somewhere but he loses the ball a lot, has no composure in front of goal and plays everyone onside when he has no business being there.

Should've won that today. Bad subs from Moyes, Noble was pointless and just made us even slower. Yarmalenko didn't really have enough time to make an impact.

Not convinced by Fornals.

Good as Noble has been, he's not Billy Bonds.

If he retires at 41 (and two thirds), it won't be too soon...

easthammer - Bowen and Yarmolenko on the flanks is exactly what we do need. No more square pegs in round holes - Fornals is not a winger.

Past couple of games we have looked better than we did at the end for Pelligrini.
